Catimini

$800.00

Acrylics and oil markers on canvas
12 × 12 × 0.75 in
2018

This series explores the expressive possibilities of repetition. Built through thousands of dots of varying sizes, each painting grows slowly, layer by layer, until shapes, rhythms, and relationships begin to emerge. The works invite viewers to move between seeing individual marks and experiencing the composition as a living whole.

In Catimini, a feline presence gradually reveals itself from a dense constellation of dots. Rather than being clearly outlined, the cat appears woven into its environment, as if it were emerging from a night sky filled with color and movement. The blues, whites, reds, and greens create a vibrant network of patterns that blur the boundary between figure and background.

The painting captures the elusive nature of cats—their ability to appear and disappear, to remain both present and mysterious. The dark background enhances this sense of ambiguity, while the bright dots create flashes of light that guide the eye through the composition. The result is a balance between camouflage and revelation.

The title, Catimini, borrowed from the French expression meaning "quietly" or "on the sly," reflects the spirit of the work. Like a cat moving silently through the shadows, the image unfolds gradually, rewarding close attention. Through rhythm, color, and repetition, the painting celebrates subtlety, mystery, and the quiet beauty of things that reveal themselves slowly.
